  {Lets not judge people!}

Ok, so can I talk politics for a minute? I know that no one wants to read this, no one wants to know my point, and no one is going to leave me comments, and I might even loose a few readers. But that's ok with me, because this is a subject that I feel really passionate about. Not politics, but the junk being spread about McCain's running mate, Sarah Palin.

Now, you might have heard, that Gov. Palin has a daughter who is 17, unmarried and pregnant. Does this make her a bad mom? HECK NO! Does it make her daughter a bad person? HECK NO! And let me tell you why I think that. Because I too was 17, unwed, and pregnant. Am I a bad person? No. Did I throw my life away so I could live in the streets? No. Am I a good mom who runs a full time business that I solely own, give my daughter everything she needs and wants, and walk with Jesus as any other mother does? YES!! Is my mom a bad mother? No. Was she responsible for me laying with someone that wasn't my husband? No. Could she have done a better job as a parent and kept a better eye on me? No. This is why....TEENAGERS LIE PEOPLE! This is not new news!! They have been doing it forever. Kids get pregnant when their parents think they are at a friends house or the mall. Parents give the sex talk, that doesn't mean your kids are not going to have sex! Millions of girls that are underage give birth in this country every year. Its nothing new. We just used to send them to convents instead of school!

So hear me out. I know what its like to be that girl. The one who walks through the halls at 9 months pregnant and has people call her a whore and a slut to her face! I have been there. I have seen it. I have felt the pain. And I saw what it did to my mom. Her friends all abandoned her. They said she was a bad mom. Well honey, look in your own closet and a I guarantee you there are a few skeletons!

No one is perfect.
Lets not judge this lady on her kid's actions. Lets say, look, she is standing by her daughter. She is doing what a good mother should. She isn't kicking her out or forcing an abortion on her. She is being strong for her, and that is what she needs. She needs support and love. That's what I needed.
I think that the McCain/Palin team could really rock this country and do some amazing things for us.
Remember.....he who has no sin must cast the first stone. Are you throwing yours?

(...stepping down from my soap box now!)

Good for you Nikki! I was not pregnant at 17, nor were my daughters and I totally agree with you. Teenagers do what they want, they try to cover their tracks but they usually make mistakes. It can be driving drunk, getting pregnant, doing drugs, computer tampering, you name it. So many things can result in a life changing reality. Good moms are there to stand by and support their children in all things - easy and difficult. This candidate is most likely a very good mom and her daughter's reality does not define her mothering skills. What she does now for her daughter will. And it looks really good so far! P.S. your daughter is lucky to have you and I am sure she knows it!

I am so with you! That is crazy we both posted like the same thing at the same time!! :) Thank you for being so honest! It is so true! I love the stone verse! SO TRUE! This weekend I ordered a sign and sticker for my yard. I USUALLY would never HAVE A STICKER on my car, but I feel like I need to at least until the election is over!
Thanks again for this post and telling us your thoughts! They were needed!!!

Actually Nikki,
You gained a reader with me. One that respects you. My daughter was 17 and pregnant-She has since turned 18 and is due the end of December. I raised all my kids the same way. I had them all in chuch and even when we weren't in church the Lord is number one in our house. I really feel I am a good mother. And my daughter has been treated really bad by others, even Christians. I feel sad for them and pray the Lord forgives them.
My daughter has become a different person now that she has a baby girl on the way. Before she didn't care much for herself and now she won't put anything in her body that could hurt her baby. She has become closer to God then ever. This baby is a huge huge blessing.

When my daughter and I run into people that may have not heard she is pregnant...I hold my head up, look them in the eye, put my hand on my daughters tummy and tell them with JOY that "we are expecting a baby girl in December."

I may not be proud of some of the choices that my daughter made but I think many people made the same choices but "didn't get caught" I am proud that abortion didn't even cross her mind and that already she is showing she is a great mother. I really pray that people stop judging...It only comes back and bites them in the end.
God Bless you, your wonderful mom and your darling daughter.

Hi nikki
*clapping*. I agree with you totally. Its easy to say that about people we don't know. We don't feel that way about people we know because we have an excuse...we know those people and THEY can't surely be like that.

Sometimes we just pass judgement without even thinkings...just for the sake of it when we should really be concentrating on the good around us. I think we should be able to recognize the good and be happy with that and not make bad of situations we don't know about.

Thank you for sharing your story too.

Have a lovely day.

I'm voting the Republican ticket! Not sure I like the qualifications of Sarah Palin, but having a pregnant daughter has nothing to do with that!

When I heard this news it only made me want Palin & McCain to win even more than before. Since I lived this experience as your sister, I too saw what people said about mom. It was not her fault. Parents are not perfect and they teach their children the best they can, but there comes a day when they can't be there for every second of their child's life. This is when life happens.

If she can stick by her daughter and handle this, handle raising a special needs child, and handle her job as governor all at the same time...this is exactly what this country needs--a multi-tasking woman who can discuss U.S. finances during a conference call while giving her baby a bottle at the same time!

Nikki,

No one could have said it better!! I agree 100%!!

I agree with you but I do think it is a double standard because if she were a Democrat the Republicans would seriously be questioning her 'family values'. I think Obama is doing the right thing by asking the media to back off of Palin and all of the children involved with this election. We should be focused on the real issues (and there are some very big concerns regarding Palin).

Oh, Nikki, this is a great post!!! I am with the Robin's Nest except that I would say, a LOT of them did not get caught. I don't think you can judge someone's Christianity or good mothering by the choices they or their children make. I praise God for the stand Bristol Palin is taking and the choice you made Nikki. So many babies are killed everyday in this situation!!

YAY you for speaking the truth! It sickens me to see what they are trying to do...trying to destroy a child and her mother for their own agenda. That kind of evil should NEVER have power!

Amen, Nikki.

I just came across your blog and all I have to say is that I am so thankful somebody had the nerve to say this.

I was two weeks away from graduating from high school when I got pregnant. My mom did the same thing. She supported me. She was/is a great mom.

There were a lot of people that judged me also.

The main thing I wish people would realize is the Bible says that Children are a BLESSING from the Lord. I doesn't say Children born to married parents are a blessing.
ALL children are blessings.

Well put Melody! I too believe that all children are a blessing!

Bravo for you to speak out. I found your blog and am very impressed and can tell God is the head of your house and life. I agree with all you said and I am not young like yourself. Good for you to hold onto the gift God gave you in your daughter. God makes good of our mistakes and look how he has blessed you.
