So yesterday we finally put together a little area in our living room. This area was decorated LITERALLY on a shoe string budget! The couch was my sisters that she got for FREE, and gave it to me, so that was FREE. The slipcover was $20 from craigslist, brand new, never opened! The lamp was a Good Will find for $4.00 and the shade was $2.00 also from Good Will. The rooster was a Hobby Lobby steal for $2.50! The table is one I have had forever covered in some fabric I got in the $1 bin at Walmart.
But the art is what I wanted to chat about!!
I bought this frame with some REALLY UGLY art in it at Garden Ridge on sale for $3.00. I ripped out the old art and took the cardboard backing, cut out 4 squares from each of the scrapbooking papers in all different patterns and colors, and glued them on to the cardboard with a glue stick. The scrapbook paper was on sale for 25cents a piece, so all in all, the project cost me $6.25!
Here is the break down of the art projecct:
11 sheets of scrap book paper: $2.75
2 glue sticks: $.50
Frame and matting: $3.00
TOTAL: $6.25!

Wow -- you did great! I'll have to remember the artwork idea. It's such a simple way to bring a lot of color to a wall (without paint!).
I found you!!! I always like reading your comments but could never get to your blog. Did you know that when you comment on someone else's blog there are no links to your profile or your blog?
It was easy enough to find you once I realized I could just google your name.
Anyway, I love your scrapbook creation! I'm not much of a scrapbooker but I LOVE scrapbook paper! I did something kind of similar a while back but it was way smaller than the one you did.
What a great way to get yourself some fun artwork on a shoestring budget. Love it!
Hey Kimba! :) Wow! You wrote on my blog!! hehehe I feel so "graced" by your presence! hehe
I didnt realize it didnt link! poop! Well, I just might have to fix that!! I thought when you clicked my name on the blog it would take you here! Oh well, I will keep trying to get it to work! Thanks!! :)
Michelle! Thank you so much for your comment!
And your so right, I have so many friends who live in apartments and cant paint, so this is a great way to get some style and color in without much money or getting in trouble with the landlord! hehe
Wow what a great idea. I just found some awesome frames at Gardenridge also. They have the best bargains in their damaged section. Looks great. I also love that lamp from the Goodwill. What a steal!!
I love your art and your rooster! Very chic! Susie h~
super cute!
I did something very similar: for the inserts I used square cards w/pictures of chocolate desserts (the recipes were on the opposite side) and it's hanging in my kitchen.
ohh!! Thats an awesome idea Olga! Thanks for sharing it...I think there might be one in MY kitchen next week also! hehehe :)
I love the color combination that you did in your framed creation! It looks wonderful! It reminds me of a cherished quilt! I was curious, did you put anything on the top of the papers once you glued them down?
Sincerely ~ Tricia Anne
you know, I didnt add anything on top, just left it alone. But I thought about putting some shiny modgepodge on it to make it shiny, but decided to leave it alone! lol
