Well, it has been a long hard road. And now we have a new President.
First I want to say congratulations to President elect Barack Obama. Also a congratulations is in order for his wife, Michelle, and his daughters, as well as the entire Democratic party. They truly ran a solid campaign and won fairly. His campaign manager really needs a raise because he truly ran one hell of a campaign!

I was sitting here last night and watching the TV when Obama's win was announced. I have to admit, the first thing I thought was sadness. I shed a few tears. I prayed for Obama and the US. I prayed for my family. I prayed for our futures. Not because I think Obama is going to rip all of that apart, but because I think prayer is our most powerful weapon against the enemy, and I know that Obama is going to have to fight off the enemy in his job day in and day out. I might not have voted him into office, but I will stand behind this country. The election is over and people can either get on board or jump ship. I love living here and would never leave just because of the president.

Now, I have to say, when Sen. McCain came on the TV to concede his run in this race, I was so disappointed. Not in John McCain, but in the people in the crowd. When he mentioned Barack Obama's name, people booed. I was so ashamed to call myself a republican at that point. I could not believe that these people were booing a man that won not only the popular vote but the electoral vote fair and square. We may not agree with his topics or his values, but that doesn't mean that we stand up against him by demeaning both him and ourselves by booing. I pray that the hearts in all of those people are softened. The Lord says, love thy neighbor. I am choosing to take the higher road here, and I can only hope that everyone else will.

Lets see what the next 4 years hold...

I must say that I was very impressed with McCain's concession speech. This was a man that we all can and should respect.

I too cried last night. I grieve for a nation that pretty much voted on money than the issues that are close to God's heart (supporting Israel, right ot life, etc). Although I DID NOT vote for Barack Obama, as a Christian and an American, I will be in submission to his leadership of this country. I Peter 2:13-17 says:

13 Therefore submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord’s sake, whether to the king as supreme, 14 or to governors, as to those who are sent by him for the punishment of evildoers and for the praise of those who do good. 15 For this is the will of God, that by doing good you may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men— 16 as free, yet not using liberty as a cloak for vice, but as bondservants of God. 17 Honor all people. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the king.

I will "render to Caesar what is Caesar's" and I will respect his position as the new president. Mark 12:17 says:
And Jesus answered and said to them, “Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.” And they marveled at Him.

I will teach my children to respect all authority as no one gets into authority unless God allows. I will NOT however, support any legislation or program that goes against the heart of God. I believe that we will one day have to answer for the choices we made in this life and, for as much as I am able, I want to stand before Him with a clear conscience. Matthew 12:35-37 says: A good man out of the good treasure of his heart[a] brings forth good things, and an evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth evil things. But I say to you that for every idle word men may speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment. For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.”

You are right! It is our responsibilty to pray for him and this country. God is a gentleman. He allows us free will. The majority of this nation (and many Christians) have voted for a man who I believe is not the best man for the job as he supports so many things which God hates. May God have mercy on this country and may we always remember that no matter who sits in the oval office, GOD IS STILL GOD AND HE IS STILL ON THE THRONE!!!

Amen, friend. As Scott and I watched McCain's speak, I was disgusted with the amount of Boo's. Then, to hear this was an invitation only gathering was too much. This is supposed to be the "top" republicans and you Boo? What, are you in the 5th grade??

What astounded me the most was the amount of tears from Obama supporters. Like he was some rock star and they got to touch his sleeve.

I prayed too. It will be an interesting four years. -- Brandi

I truly appreciate your post. As an Obama supporter, I have seen a lot of nasty and bitter posts today. Thanks for keeping yours as positive as possible given your views. :)

I'm so glad that you posted on this. I hope that just because I was in favor of McCain and voted for him that people don't sterotype me with those that were booing! I was embarrassed by it , and I think John McCain was too. He did his best to stop it, but it still was so apparent!

I am going to give Obama a chance because it is the right thing to do for our country!

I am going to do my part by praying for him...something I have not always done for other leaders.

Thanks Nikki, I totally agree. I didn't vote for him either, but he won and I live here and I will stand behind him. I also think prayers are needed for him and his familys safety during the next 4 years. My daughter came home upset. Most people in her school were for Obama and her class has been following the election. She thought the booing was for McCain. I am going to let her read your post in the morn.

So well said! I agree and feel that prayer is what we need at this time. I do not want to be one of those people that disrespects the office of the President. The beauty of a democracy is everything American. I will support the President(though he wasn't my choice-he is the people's choice)!

Oh, I agree with you. During the next four years, though, I wish him every success possible. We all need this as a nation, regardless of who we voted for, in order to heal.

Nikki, those were my thoughts exactly.

I was disappointed, but hopeful at the same time. I prayed for the Obama family.

And how tacky of the crowd to boo when McCain was giving his speech.

You hit it dead on, girl!
